For more than two decades, Goutam Dey has walked the neglected riverbanks, arid laterite tracts, and historic alleyways of Eastern India. Combining the rigorous analytical discipline of a cultural historian with the spatial sensitivity of a documentary photographer, his work seeks to build an exhaustive visual registry of endangered heritage sites before they are permanently altered or lost.
The Journey of Bharatcharcha
Established as a dedicated digital and print repository, Bharatcharcha represents the culmination of countless field seasons. What began as individual surveys of the 17th-century terracotta temples of Bishnupur and the riverine trading posts of Hooghly has expanded into a comprehensive educational platform that bridges the gap between academic historiography and public visual literacy.
